About

Hi, I’m Scott. I live in Brisbane, work in advertising, play music and take photos.

Over the last few years I’ve been lucky enough to have worked in a variety of online/interactive/social media/digital creative, strategy and production roles on both client and agency sides, doing work for companies including Artline, Brumby’s, Department of Education Training and the Arts, Donut King, CUA, Main Roads, Origin Energy, Parmalat, Peak Usability, QUT, Sunny Queen Eggs, Tourism Queensland and Wallace Bishop.

I currently work in Copywriting and Interactive Strategy at Brisbane digital advertising agency, XCOM (was previously at BCM for two years), and enjoy the mix of idea generation, creative problem solving and table tennis that each day brings.

I also enjoy writing. And wordplays. Particularly puns. Yes, they’re the cheapest trick in the copywriter’s book and were forcibly removed during my time in AWARD School, but I still think they have a place in advertising, even if only within the confines of the office. Hence the name  of this blog – I tend to hear “Oh, I see what you did there…” a fair bit. Or is it me that says it? Regardless, everyone needs a wise-ass catchphrase. Especially when evaluating creative work.

You can also find me on the AIMIA Qld committee and I’ve presented at various industry and educational events on things like social media, interaction design, integrated marketing strategy, user experience/behaviour, and online copywriting.

I play saxophone and clarinet in a few jazz/funk bands and orchestras around Brisbane, and have recorded with many local artists as a studio musician. Since there’s not a lot of cashola in being a part-time muso, these gigs are basically an excuse to get suited up Don Draper-style and wear loosened skinny black ties. And have an amazing amount of fun.

I also like playing tennis. And taking photos. But I don’t like drawing.

I hope you enjoy my writing, rants, photos, half-baked ideas and self-promotional gig shout-outs on this ol’ bloggy of mine. I tend to write a fair bit for my work blog, so please excuse any duplicate posts where I’ve republished them on here. Please feel free to check out my portfolio, or get in touch if you want to catch up or have any questions. Cheers.
